Package: vim
Version: 1:6.3-013+2
Severity: normal
This might warrant higher severity, but I suspect it relates to a
relatively unusual feature of my system. The bug prevents proper configuration, and could potentially block configuration of unrelated
packages (I think--it hasn't for me).
The latest upgrade (apt-get -q dist-upgrade) on my mostly testing
system produced
---------------------------------------
Setting up vim-common (6.3-013+2) ...
Setting up vim (6.3-013+2) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/vim/vimrc ...
mv: cannot stat `editor': No such file or directory
update-alternatives: unable to rename editor to /usr/bin/editor: Invalid cross-device link
dpkg: error processing vim (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of kvim:
kvim depends on vim (= 1:6.3-013+2); however:
Package vim is not configured yet.

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
iron:~# ls -l /usr/bin/editor
ls: /usr/bin/editor: No such file or directory ------------------------------------------------------
I speculate this has something to do with the fact that I diverted
editor to refer to emacs:
-------------------------------------
# update-alternatives --display editor
editor - status is auto.
link currently points to /etc/alternatives/emacs
/usr/bin/emacs21 - priority 0
/bin/ed - priority -100
slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/ed.1.gz
/usr/bin/nvi - priority 19
slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/nvi.1.gz
/usr/bin/vim - priority 120
slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/vim.1.gz
/bin/nano - priority 40
slave editor.1.gz: /usr/share/man/man1/nano.1.gz
/etc/alternatives/emacs - priority 150
slave editor.1.gz: /etc/alternatives/emacs.1.gz
Current `best' version is /etc/alternatives/emacs. --------------------------------------------
My log of my original command setting this up is garbled because I was
doing command-line editing. For what it's worth, here's the log: ----------------------------------------------- #)update-alternativess--installleditorreditorr/etc/alternatives/emacss--slaveeeditor.1.gzzeditor.1.gzz/et1PAron:~#)update-alternatives --install editor editor /etc/alternatives/emacs --slave editor.1.gz editor.1.gz /e1@tAon:~# update-alternatives --

It seems possible this relates to

It also bears some resemblance to

which has been closed.
