• Bug#267161: aptitude: failure to fetch message lost in debugging info

From Dan Jacobson@1:229/2 to All on Sat Aug 21 01:00:12 2004
    From: [email protected]

    Package: aptitude
    Version: 0.2.15.2-1
    Severity: minor

    Whereas

    # apt-get install libgd2-xpm ; echo $?
    Err http://debian.linux.org.tw sid/main libgd2-xpm 2.0.28-2
    404 WWWOFFLE Will Get
Failed to fetch http://debian.linux.org.tw/debian/pool/main/libg/libgd2/libgd2-xpm_2.0.28-2_i386.deb 404 WWWOFFLE Will Get
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
    100

    Yours just ends with
    Err http://debian.linux.org.tw sid/main libgd2-xpm 2.0.28-2
    404 WWWOFFLE Will Get
    Reading Package Lists... Done
    Building Dependency Tree
    Reading extended state information
    Initializing package states... Done
    255

One can see apt-get's error messages pound the user over the head,
whereas yours are not only not the final words, they are almost lost
in that debugging stuff that you can turn off by as the default now I
    suppose.
