This is clearly non-free, violating DFSG3. The file "floatflt.ins" is

    Closing.

    Thank you.

This affects the following files at a minimum:

    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt/floatexm.dvi.gz
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt
    tex4ht: /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/tex4ht/floatflt.4ht

Is there a bug filed against tex4ht?

No, there isn't. That was basically the output of dpkg -S floatflt.
Looking at that file, it appears to be a simple wrapper around floatflt
to make it usable with tex4ht; nothing in it seems to be actually taken
from floatflt. There are quite a number of such wrappers in tex4ht,
many of them for packages that don't seem to be in the teTeX
distribution, so I don't think this one is any more of a problem than
the rest; I suspect these wrappers are all as shipped from upstream, and
it doesn't seem necessary to remove all the ones for macro packages not
in Debian (since the majority of them are for macro packages that are in Debian).

This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156)
    Package: tetex-extra
    Version: 2.0.2a-2
    Severity: serious

The floatflt package has the following license, seen in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/misc/floatflt.sty :

    %% Copyright (c) 1994-1998 by Mats Dahlgren <[email protected]>.
%% All rights reserved. See the file `floatflt.ins' for information
%% on how you may (re-)distribute the `floatflt' package files.
%% You are not allowed to make any changes to this file without
%% explicit permission from the author.

This is clearly non-free, violating DFSG3. The file "floatflt.ins" is
not included in the binary package or the source package; the version at http://www.tug.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/floatflt/floatflt.ins
gives the following license (also found on the author's website):

    % Copyright (c) 1994-1998 by Mats Dahlgren <[email protected]>,
    % http://www.homenet.se/matsd/ . All rights reserved.
    %
% You may use the `floatflt' package freely, but at your own
% risk. The authors of floatflt.dtx and floatflt.ins (the
% complete `floatflt' package distribution) can not be held
% responsible for any consequence of your using any of these
% files, or files created from these, including hardware,
% software, and data damage. You may not make any changes to
% the files floatflt.dtx or floatflt.ins. You are allowed to make
    % changes to the `\documentclass' and/or `\usepackage' commands
% of the file `floatexm.tex'. u You may freely distribute the
% files floatflt.dtx and floatflt.ins, provided: 1. You do not
% take money for the distribution or use of these files except
% for a nominal charge for diskettes and postage; and 2. You
    % always distribute `floatflt.dtx' and `floatflt.ins' together
    % at the same time.

This license is clearly non-free as well, violating DFSG3 and DFSG6.

(Note that not including this license in debian/copyright would be a bug
even if the license was Free. Also, note that the source code,
consisting of floatflt.ins and floatflt.dtx, was not included in the
    source package.)

This affects the following files at a minimum:

    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt/floatexm.dvi.gz
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt
    tex4ht: /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/tex4ht/floatflt.4ht
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/help/Catalogue/entries/floatflt.html
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt/floatfge.dvi.gz
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt/floatexm.tex.gz
    tetex-extra: /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/misc/floatflt.sty
    tetex-doc: /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex/floatflt/floatflt.dvi.gz

After removal, the author should be contacted and asked if he would be
willing to consider relicensing the files under the current version of
the LPPL. The CTAN entry for floatflt claims it is under the LPPL, but
I found nothing that actually places it under that license.

Yes, this is not DFSG either. I'll contact the author about this.

Yes, we're on the way to write a proper copyright file. #218105 and
#258972, but I'm afraid that won't be finished before sarge.
The source is delivered separately in tetex-src.

Not in this case, for two reasons:

The ideal case would be to have all but the first sentence removed, so
that the package may be distributed under the current LPPL, with no
    additional restrictions.

But yes, the file under the current license should be removed from the orig.tar.gz.

OK. This should probably be done at the same time as a complete license
audit of tetex. (I may be able to help with such an audit at that time.)

The source is delivered separately in tetex-src.

Again, just out of curiosity, why is the package not built from its source?

I still believe that there is enough time left for sarge. Why do you
think that upstream is unable to answer within a week? That would
still be in time for sarge.

BTW, there is a nice saying "Der Ton macht die Musik" (roughly

answer, you should be polite first. How do you expect a positive
