    I have disabled all locale related environment variables except for LC_CTYPE=de_DE and no LANG or any other LC_whatever. Unfortunately this is
    just enough to trigger usage of German language menus. This really
    shouldn't happen with LC_CTYPE only set.

    Oh, looks like the app-defaults selection mechanism tricks me here.

    Most likely it will not be fixed, I have no idea how to fix that easily
    (other than disabling locale support altogether). In the long run motv
    is dead anyway[1], so I don't feel like putting much effort into that.
    Ideas welcome through.

    [1] the current devel tree uses gtk (+gettext which hasn't that problem).
