    1. Only when using -nw option? What occurs using X11, without

    2. Try xemacs -q -no-site-file -nw.
    3. Tell me the output of the following commands,

    $ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --display xemacs
    $ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --display xemacs21

    Identical behaviour with and without -nw. Even unsetting $DISPLAY makes
    no difference.

    Same behaviour.

    Hi.

    I don't know why xemacs21 receives SEGV in your environment.
    There is no other report that xemacs21 crashes. Binary packages
    of xemacs21 which you use may be broken. Please reinstall
    xemacs21-nomule package.

    # apt-get --reinstall install xemacs21-nomule

    or

    # apt-get --purge remove xemacs21-nomule
    # apt-get install xemacs21-nomule

    Or test xemacs21-mule package,

    # apt-get install xemacs21-mule
    # update-alternative --config xemacs21
    (set alternative /usr/bin/xemacs21-mule for xemacs21.)

    Thanks.

    OK, tried that. No joy.

    I then tried deleting the .deb files from /var/cache, and even removing
    from our local repository and refetching them from the upstream
    repository and then removing and reinstalling. But still no luck.

    Could it be a problem in one of the shared libraries which xemacs21 is
    using?

    For your information, here's the output from "ldd -v
