• Bug#262763: gimp: Call /tmp/normal a more responsible name

    From Dan Jacobson@1:229/2 to All on Fri Aug 13 01:10:09 2004

    this is something you could have done yourself too.
    Thank you for checking for me, I am on a costly slow modem.

    FYI, you've set your thumbnail directory to /tmp. If you don't want it to be in /tmp/normal, set it to something else, like /tmp/gimp.

    How?

    Odd, I removed my entire ~/.gimp* and it didn't change.
    $ grep normal /etc/gimp/2.0/gimprc
    # (thumbnail-size normal)...
    all commented.
    # dpkg-reconfigure gimp
    # dpkg-reconfigure gimp-data
    doesn't ask me anything.
    So just how did I set my thumbnail directory to /tmp?
    Preferences->Folders refer to my home directory.

    Good question. It shouldn't even be possible, since it's not a
    preference. What's your ~/.thumbnails look like?

    lrwxrwxrwx 1 4 2003-12-05 12:57 .thumbnails -> /tmp

    Err, say isn't this bug already closed?
    Hmmm, it's getting hot in here.

    Well, it must be all their fault... I see in preferences->environment
    that it mentions size of thumbnails, but one still can't control where
    they are put there... So the user was forced to do it the hard way.
