• Bug#264506: all fine, but grub

    From Martin Michlmayr@1:229/2 to All on Tue Aug 10 23:20:14 2004
    From: [email protected]

    * tbm <[email protected]> [2004-08-09 15:29]:
    * Peter Palfrader <[email protected]> [2004-08-09 08:52]:
    /target # chroot .
    sh-2.05b# grub-install '(hd0)'
    The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.
    sh-2.05b#

    I just did an installation and got exactly the same error.
    /boot/grub/stage1 did exist, so I don't know why it was not read
    correctly.

    What filesystem? A new patch for sparse files on ext2/3 just went into
    grub.

    I used ext3.

    Which patch? Do you mean in upstream or in debian?

    If the patch broke something, we could just revert it.

    Yeah.. well, I didn't see anything in upstream ChangeLog. Is this change documented? Otherwise which files are affected (so I can trace it from cvs logs)?

    You can try this patch or wait for grub to be updated. Let me know if it works.

    The patch does not make any difference. With and without it I get:

    | hades:~# grub-install '(hd0)'
    | The file /boot/grub/stage2 not read correctly.
    | hades:~#
