    Quoting Hubert Chan <[email protected]>:

    Package: tramp
    Version: 1:2.0.43-1
    Severity: grave

In /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/tramp, if ${FLAVOR} is not
one of emacs20, emacs21, xemacs21, then ${FILES} is unset. The
"cp ${FILES} ${ELCDIR}" line then fails, since cp gets called with only
one argument. This causes postinst to fail.

    (e.g. this happens when ${FLAVOR} is emacs-snapshot)

emacs-snapshot is not part of debian so this bug report should
have never been filed. Please better contact me instead.

I downgraded the bug to wishlist.

    Cheers,

It is true that emacs-snapshot is not part of Debian, but the package
will have the same behaviour for any unknown flavour of emacs (i.e. any
emacs other than emacs20, emacs21, or xemacs21). For example, it will
fail if emacs19 is installed, or if, in future when (x)emacs22 gets
    released.

It is true that emacs19 is outdated, and that (x)emacs22 are probably a
very long way away, but the package should not have this behaviour
anyways, and I don't see any reason for not fixing it.

Jrme> Please better contact me instead.

I was under the impression that filing a bug was the proper way to
contact you on such matters. I apologize if that is not the case.

Jrme> I downgraded the bug to wishlist.

I disagree with wishlist. IMHO, it is at least normal or important.
(OK, grave may have been overkill, but AFAICS, this may break an upgrade
to sarge+1 if (x)emacs22 is released and gets installed before the new
tramp package gets installed.) Nevertheless, I respect that it is your
final call, and I won't push the matter further if you still think that wishlist is appropriate.

Neither emacs19 nor xemacs22 are part of debian, so currently there
is no bug with tramp packaging you can reproduce by the means of
    packages from unstable/testing.

It is true that emacs19 is outdated, and that (x)emacs22 are probably a
very long way away, but the package should not have this behaviour

    I'm going to fix it.

At first glance, I thought it was a bug with emacs-snapshot, but
after rereading it, you are right.

Let's upgrade it, and fix it.
