I've been using cyrus for a couple years too, without a glitch, on a
server with an average load >4..
I split the load over a couple machines and now cyrus delivery is over
tcp instead of unix sockets. That's the only big difference along with extensively using milters (clamav+milter-ahead/spamc) instead of
    mailscanner and upgrading from 8.12.10.

    I just recently switched from clamav-milter & spamass-milter to
mimedefang who calls clamdscan and spamassassin directly - seems to
less load & gives more configurability

    add -OLogLevel=15 to DAEMON_PARMS=""; in /etc/mail/sendmail.conf and
check the logs for clues when this happens again.

Please also check that libdb4.2 is using FCNTL locking, not FLOCK
Lastly, if you don't need LDAP, you might try building without that.

Ok, I will enable logging on one of the boxes. libdb4.2 is using FCNTL.
And I do need LDAP. But I will also give 8.13.1 a try since it's out.

Ok, I'm using LDAP as well - any news on this ?

    Package: sendmail
    Version: 8.12.11.Final-5
    Severity: important

top shows 99.8% cpu usage for hours:
    16718 root 25 0 4780 2808 3404 R 99.8 0.2 758:08.18 sendmail:
    MTA: smtp.interne.: idle
    strace/ltrace show no activity.
Usually happens some time (~1/2h) after a reload.
It's always showing "MTA: smtp.interne.: idle" (cyrusv2 lmtp)
The package has been built on woody using gcc-2.95-4/libc6-dev
    2.2.5-11.5 with SM_BUILD_OPT="noauth notls"
It goes away when I SIGTERM the process and won't have any more problems
    till the next reload.
