Hi!
You probably hit some rare but that we can not reproduce. If you have
the oportunity to retry the installer please send us the files
/var/log/partman and /var/log/messages. If you manage to complete the installation these files will be preserved in the directory /var/log/debian-installer.

Both auto- and manual partitioning failed in the same way. After choosing to write the partition table, I get this message:
| [!!] Partition disks |
Failed to create a file system
The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of IDE1 master (hda) failed.
Associated with this, I see a new message at the bottom of dmesg's output:
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: unknown partition table
The partition table is supposed to look like this:
IDE1 master (hda) - 4.3 GB Fujitsu MHF2043AT
#1 primary 4.1 GB :-) ext3 /
#2 logical 224.5 MB :-) swap swap
Note that I first tried #2 as a "primary" partition. I also tried ext2 instead of ext3. In the case of ext2, I get a superficially different error message:
| [!!] Partition disks |
The attempt to mount a file system with type ext2 in IDE1 master, partition #1
() at / failed.
