If required, the full build log is available here:

About the archive rebuild: The build was made on virtual machines from AWS, using sbuild and a reduced chroot with only build-essential packages.

If you could not reproduce the bug please contact me privately, as I
am willing to provide ssh access to a virtual machine where the bug is
    fully reproducible.

If this is really a bug in one of the build-depends, please use
reassign and add an affects on src:helm, so that this is still
visible in the BTS web page for this package.

    Thanks.

    Hello Xiyue,

Thank you very much for considering taking on this package.

One issue is that no NEW packages are allowed into testing during the
freeze. You would need a special exception. So I would suggest asking
for that now before proceeding. Otherwise you'll need to fix the FTBFS
some other way -- or perhaps patch out the dependency?

I could review the async change but you set Aymeric as reviewer so I
won't do it for now. Let me know.

Thanks for the tip! I took another look, and it turns out wfnames are introduced as an alternative to wdired, so it's actually optional. I
have added a patch[1] to temporarily remove its support until emacs-wfnames enters the archive. PTAL.

You mean, until it migrates to testing, after the freeze. It can clear
    NEW before then.

On you patch, I don't think you need to comment out the defvar and declare-function calls. Those can be left alone.

I could review the async change but you set Aymeric as reviewer so I
won't do it for now. Let me know.

Aymeric has kindly replied[2], and I'd like to hear your opinion on this
    as well. TIA!

    I've posted.

It looks good (though do close the orphaning bug) but I'm concerned
about importing a new upstream version. The release team have asked us
to upload only small, targeted fixes. Are you ready to explain to them
why you think importing a new upstream version is the best way to fix

    From: [email protected]

    Hi,

Though I don't use helm as much as I did 3 years ago, it looks like its
removal from testing blocks a lot of packages like rtags, eproject-el, virtualenvwrapper-el, etc., and I'd like to fix it and potentially adopt
    helm.

On attempting to fix this by upgrading helm to the latest version
(currently 4.0.3), I found out that there are 2 external bugs that are
    blocking this:

    * It now depends on wfnames. I have a RFS prepared[1].
    * It requires async-package.el from emacs-async, which we didn't ship in
    1.9.9-1. I have proposed a fix[2].

As for helm itself, I am refraining from making much packaging changes
as suggested by the release team[3], though the majority of diff will
come from upstream changes since 3.8.4 (> 3 years), I wonder whether
this can still make it to Trixie. Please let me know, and if we are too
late, it's still good to fix for Forky (and I'll probably also update debhelper-compat and Standards-Version).

Anyway, my fix can be seen in the bug#1099238 branch (diff[4]). Note
that helm uses dgit-maint-debrebase workflow, so this branch should not
    be merged directly.

In summary, if all the fixes above look good, I would need sponsorship
for the updates of the 3 packages.

    TIA!
