• Update IO::Stringy

From Andrew Ruthven@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 14 10:30:01 2024
    Hey,

I'm working on updating the Request Tracker 5 packages to the latest version (5.0.7) and there is a new dependency (I'll post another email about that).
But a dependency of the new dependency is IO::String v2.113. We have v2.111
in unstable. The new version hadn't been noticed because the upstream
package name has changed slightly and the d/watch regex didn't match.

I've imported the latest version and done the things which are needed, but I have a couple of questions.

    1) There was a wishlist item in d/changelog to rename the source package to libio-stringy-perl which seems sensible, so I've done that in d/control and d/changelog. Is there anything else needed?
    2) d/changelog has a bunch of Debian Janitor bumps of debhelper and
standards versions in the current entry, is it okay if I delete the
redundant ones? I don't think they add anything.

In relation to renaming the source package, I figure we'll also rename the Salsa repo to match, so updated that in d/control as well.

    Salsa repo: https://salsa.debian.org/perl-team/modules/packages/io-stringy

    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Oh :)

I've imported the latest version and done the things which are needed, but I have a couple of questions.

    Sounds good.
Besides the repo name, which you mention below, it might be possible
that the package has to go through NEW (but I don't think so).

    2) d/changelog has a bunch of Debian Janitor bumps of debhelper and
standards versions in the current entry, is it okay if I delete the

That's a matter of taste, so please go ahead in the way you prefer :)

Cool. I've removed the redundant entries.

Does anyone want to do a review? I'm happy to just upload it.

    Sure. - Some notes:

    * And now I can't build the package, as gbp looks for

    Sure, done.

Oh, right, lintian hasn't been updated yet :/

This should be fixed now. (And I figure you meant to say it is only finding 2.111).

No, I think I saw io-stringy_2.113.orig.tar.gz* there and not libio-stringy-perl_2.113.orig.tar.gz* but as the source package is
called libio-stringy-perl now, that's what pristine-tar called from
    gbp looked for.

    % git checkout pristine-tar
    Switched to branch 'pristine-tar'
Your branch is up to date with 'origin/pristine-tar'.

    % ls -1
    io-stringy_1.105.orig.tar.gz.delta
    io-stringy_1.105.orig.tar.gz.id

    io-stringy_2.108.orig.tar.gz.id
    io-stringy_2.110.orig.tar.gz.delta
    io-stringy_2.110.orig.tar.gz.id
    io-stringy_2.111.orig.tar.gz.delta
    io-stringy_2.111.orig.tar.gz.id
    io-stringy_2.113.orig.tar.gz.delta
    io-stringy_2.113.orig.tar.gz.id

I guess this needs either a rename (not sure if this works) or a
    "re-import" (`pristine-tar commit libio-stringy-perl_2.113.orig.tar.gz upstream/2.113' - once the upstream/2.113 tag exists).

Funny how many small hurdles a simple source package rename poses
    nowadays :)

No, I think I saw io-stringy_2.113.orig.tar.gz* there and not libio-stringy-perl_2.113.orig.tar.gz* but as the source package is
called libio-stringy-perl now, that's what pristine-tar called from
    gbp looked for.

I guess this needs either a rename (not sure if this works) or a
    "re-import" (`pristine-tar commit libio-stringy-perl_2.113.orig.tar.gz upstream/2.113' - once the upstream/2.113 tag exists).

I opted to re-import the renamed orig tarball. I've pushed the branches and
    new upstream/2.113 tag.

Funny how many small hurdles a simple source package rename poses
    nowadays :)

    Yup, crazy.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Also, I use "gbp push" which takes care of pushing branches and tags.

    Good to know, thanks.
