• plasma-discover: Setting a different language (locales) as default de_D

    From Sedat Dilek@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jan 14 13:20:01 2023
    Happy new 2023 Debian and openSUSE KDE teams,

    This issue is about plasma-discover and locale/language settings and
    hope this is not Debian-specific.

    I fixed up my plasma-discover and it starts now, again on
    Debian/unstable AMD64 with KDE/Plasma version 5.26.5 and fetches
    updates.
    Normally, I do not use plasma-discover for upgrading packages but it's
    nice to have graphical frontend to check what is available.

    All my swcatalog caches (Debian DEP-11 metadata) were updated via:

    root# appstreamcli refresh --force
    root# LC_ALL=en_EN LANG=en_EN appstreamcli refresh --force

    Now I see:

    root# LC_ALL=C ll /var/cache/swcatalog/cache/
    total 21M
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Jan 14 10:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4.0K Feb 25 2022 ..
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.3M Jan 14 03:25 de_DE-local-metainfo.xb
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9.7M Jan 14 10:59 de_DE-os-catalog.xb
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 998K Jan 14 10:13 en_EN-local-metainfo.xb
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8.8M Jan 14 10:13 en_EN-os-catalog.xb

    (Re)Moved all user's appstream + discover caches before:

    user$ mv ~/.cache/appstream ~/.cache/appstream.old
    user$ mv ~/.cache/discover ~/.cache/discover.old

    Renewed APT packages repository via:

    root# apt-get update

    As you can see I have both de_DE and en_EN swcatalogs.

    If I run from Start > Apps > Discover or from konsole...

    user$ plasma-discover

    ...I always have de_DE software-catalogs visible.

    With en_EN locales...

    user$ LC_ALL=en_EN LANG=en_EN plasma-discover

    ...works fine.

    Is there a place where I can set locales/language for plasma-discover?

    I found:

    $ cat ~/.config/discoverrc
    [Window]
    geometry=0,0,1366,695
    visibility=4

    Cannot say if this is the correct config file as I have something like
    discover (hardware-info) tool also installed.

    $ man discover

    discover(1) General Commands Manual discover(1)

    NAME
    discover — hardware detection utility

    Thanks for any hints.

    Best regards,
    -Sedat-
