    Sure. (Typically, if you do not want to receive direct replies, you
    would note that in the email. Often people do so in their email

    mailing lists to include a direct response.)

    Huh? In most of the Debian mailing lists I participate in no one does
    that.

    For me it usually means additional work, cause the direct reply is not filtered automatically. I did not care enough to mention it specifically so far, however, if what you say is an accurate representation of what is
    going on in Debian mailing lists, despite my perception of the default
    being different on them, I may create a special signature for Debian
    mailing lists.

    I know its the default for Linux kernel related mailing lists, but to my perception it was never the default on Debian related mailing lists –
    unless probably if someone answers after such a long time that one might
    miss an answer to a mailing list.

    It gets difficult in case of users first time posting to a Debian
    mailing list: did they read the Code of conduct, are they subscribed?
    Some MLs allow to browse the list of members, but I don’t think lists.debian.org allows that.

    Thanks for digging that out. That exactly matches what I thought I knew
    about the default in Debian mailing lists.

    I'd always thought it to be the responsibility of the poster to state in
    case they are not subscribed. However… that falls short if they do not
    know any netiquette or code of conduct either or simply do not understand
    how a mailing list works.

    Anyway… I now explicitly mentioned to please not sent carbon copies to me for this list. Let's see how it works out.

    I bet this could conclude the topic. One could argue for one or the other
    way to approach things till the end of time. But I'd argue my and the
    other's time is spent better in another way.

    It is similar about whether to great people at the beginning of the mail
    or not. I find it polite and often do it, however… I also found that people not doing it most often do not mean this as being rude to others. So I tolerate it either way.

    Thanks for pulling that up. Based on what is written there, I accept that I was incorrect that CC should be the default. (Interestingly, on most of the lists with more experienced Debian developers, like debian-devel, responding with a CC is very common practice. However, I will adjust my behavior.)
