Dear Python Debian Team,
my name is Arian, and I'm currently in my 4th semester of Business IT with
the focus on Data Science (dual degree program). Over the past years, I
have come to rely almost entirely on open-source software in my personal proxmox based homelab. Additionally, I work with enterprise architecture, Python, Debian and much more during my practical semesters. That experience
has shaped my appreciation for the values behind open source, and I now
feel ready to start giving something back.
Because of the data science focus, I have been intensively using Python
during my practical semesters at work. Next to python I had the
opportunity to learn SAP ABAP (ECC and HANA) as well and solved tickets end
to end during my last practical semester.
*I have intermediate to advanced knowledge of:*
- REST-APIs (mainly FastAPI)
- Django
- Retrieval-Augmented generation (my first project thesis)
- Docker (I prefer to dockerise as much as possible)
- Proxmox (running a cluster in my homelab)
- Java (although I prefer python in nearly all cases)
*I have foundational knowledge of:*
- Data Science
- MQTT (my latest project involves MQTT for my proxmox orchestration)
- Assembly (Atmel 8051 Microcontroller programming)
- SAP ECC and HANA development
Experiencing the positive impact of open source software on humanity is incredible. Without open source, the world would be less colourful. I’d
like to begin contributing to Debian, particularly within the Python Team,
as Python is the language I work with most often. I’m reaching out to ask whether someone might be open to mentoring me through my first
contributions.
I am motivated to learn how Debian packaging works, help maintain Python modules, and support the project in any way I can (through coding, documentation, help streamlining the processes ...) starting with small, manageable tasks and building up from there.
I’m committed, willing to put in the time, and genuinely excited about joining a community that has already given me so much.
*I agree that I have read and accept the policies.*
