  • firefox missing?

    Today, July 4:

    # pkg update
    [an update was found and processed; the number of packages has dropped
    from >32,000 to 31,309.]
    # pkg rquery %v firefox
    #
    [i.e., not found!]

    Anyone know if this is temporary or some actual, intentional decision?

    Things like that happen from time to time when there are build failures
    on the official builders. You can find all the information via https://pkg-status.freebsd.org/

    For example, the latest build for 12.1/amd64 looks pretty broken, and
    firefox is one of the packages that failed to build: http://beefy2.nyi.freebsd.org/build.html?mastername=121amd64-quarterly&build=540953
    (this page is IIRC only reachable on IPv6)

    So, yes, this is temporary.

    The quarterly build has just started. I suspect you are hitting it at a
    bad time. Try a few hours later!

    Firefox depends on 421 other ports. (Try make all-depends-list.)

    I'm amazed it ever builds at all.

    OK. I tried pkg update again just now (July 5 16:30 Z), but no update
    since yesterday yet. I'll keep looking.

    I hope there will be an update for X11, too.)

    I went there and entered "firefox" in all three search boxes. All three categories changed to "No matching records found". Is there some
    conclusion I can draw from its non-presence in the lists?

    Nope, this is just an overview of all the builds on official build
    servers. To search for individual packages, you'll first have to locate
    the most recent build for the repository you're using in the section
    "package builds", e.g. ports "quarterly" and jail "121amd64" if you use
    the (preconfigured) quarterly repository for 12.1-RELEASE/amd64. There
    you can click that little "poudriere icon" (in the column "build") to
    get to the web interface of the builder. These builders will, as far as
    I remember, only be available on IPv6. On the page of the build itself,
    you can look for individual packages.

    It took a couple of days, but indeed: firefox reappeared in today's pkg repository.
