Yesterday I saw that Apple found a way to add back remaining battery % to some new iPhones. It was taken out to save space when the notch was added.
To make that happen Apple simply put the % remaining inside the battery icon. Wonder where that idea came from? Sure looked familiar to me. The wife's 3-year-old Android phone and tablet both have battery % displayed in the icon. Looks like this:
