Google wants Apple to adapt to their proprietary version of RCS instead of using
SMS/MMS between iPhone and Android phones. They may write RCS, but what they mean
is Google Messaging, which is done via Google servers. Fat chance.

In short, RCS - like SMS and MMS - isn't encrypted since it's supposed to be a carrier service and thus subject to lawful interception. So Google took RCS and added 1-1 encryption, not for group chats though, when using Google Messaging, which is the only version of RCS that Google supports.

I.e. if Apple did adapt to RCS, it still wouldn't work with Google Messaging since it's a proprietary version of RCS not done by the carriers. It's a Google service run on Google servers.

There was a RCS app called Joyn for a while, it was a failure though. And since Google won't adopt actual RCS because they want your data, it would be foolish for Apple to even consider adopting actual RCS since it wouldn't help iPhone- >Android communications (i.e. Joyn app couldn't talk to Google Messaging, it would revert to SMS/MMS) and it's ridiculous to assume Apple would ever want to support something via Google servers, this is just a failed guilt tripping by Google that is so sad that their users don't want to be blue bubbles any more.
