VRPC-DL running RISC OS 6.20 on Win 10 PC.

Can someone please advise, because in my old age I've forgotten
something... :-(

When I click on the HardDisc4 icon on the icon bar, the filer window opens randomly positioned on the desktop.

I'm sure there was a setting somewhere that would specify where the filer window opened when it was clicked...

Assuming my old memory is not totally shot, could someone please remind me where that config hangs out? If it does? :-/

ATM. I have an Obey file I constructed many years ago, on the Pinboard containing the following:

"Filer_OpenDir HostFS::HardDisc4.$ 10 2000 712 900 -sn -si" (Sans quotes).

Which, when double clicked opens the HD filer window specifically where I
want it.
Close My position opened filer window.

Then if I click the HD icon on the icon bar, it opens the filer window in
other places.

Maybe that's the default action and I've just forgotten. :-)

Steve Fryatt's GetFiler will create this for you. Clear the
desktop and open HardDisc4 where you want it, then click
Select on the icon bar icon and name and save the file to
wherever you want.

Supposedly that depends on the screen resolution. It takes 35 close-and-re-opens here, on a 2560 resolution horizontally. It seems as if
it shifts 73 pixels every time, also because it doesn't return *exactly* to
its original position. Is your screen 800x600 by any chance?

My screen is 1920 x 1080 C16M

It's that click on the HD4 icon on the icon bar that's the problem.

It never appears where I want it, and its offset marches rightwards across
the screen every time it's opened.

Other RISC OS windows also have uncontrollable offsets, Draw for example offsets down the screen, as does Pluto and many others.

I'm 'guessing' this is hard coded into the OS, so no chance of control?

So it appears to be a case of, don't click the HD4 Filer icon, only use my
Obey file to open it. :-)

Good thought John, but I did note at the top of my original posting I'm
using RISC OS 6.20, and GetFiler doesn't do the business with that OS.

You are probably right as Ovpro doesn't Offset multiple window openings.

Mnnn! The app business and Offset is really an aside/distraction to my
specific annoyance, the HD4 Icon bar icon.

When I click on the HD4 icon bar icon, the damn Filer window displays
where ever it wants, and not where I want it to display.

Initially, the top of the Filer window is 115mm up from the bottom of the
RISC OS window, and 5mm in from the left side of the RISC OS window.

Every time it's opened it offsets by 15mm, but as I usually only open it
once when needed, I don't care about that.

With the 1920x1080 Res I'm using, that's way down the screen.

Aside from knowing the answer to the above question, my Obey file on the Pinboard opens exactly where I want, whenever I want, and always in the
same place. :-)
