More info. I noticed I had an old version of Powerbase on the RiscPC.
9.85 DA. I thought I'd try the old one on the 5.28 on the Pi. When I
copied it over it magically became 10.32 DA. There is a Powerbase
directory in Choices but it's empty so how did it change itself? How
    spooky!

I use Powerbase for my my address book database. It no longer works as previously. I have been in touch with Derek Haslam but he cannot find
    the cause of the problem.
I am using an Armx6 and Riscos 5.29.
My problem is that a record seems to behave as a number of separate fields rather than a complete record.
Maybe the problem is caused by some other program on my computer?!!

Yes, I contacted him as well but no joy.

Is it something to do with32 bitting, or R5 or in my computer set-up?

Pity as it's a brilliant programme.

    Exporting CSV still works OK.

Might I suggest possibly moving to !Impact from SineNomine, its a superb relational database, with lots of nice facilities. You can even import
your CSV file into to it and will if you want create a database for you.

I do believe there is a working Demo version to try before you buy.

Works fine on RISC OS 5, and still supported and developed. Sine Nomine
also have a support mailing list available.

I run the club and show using it, plus plenty of my personal stuff.

Got any question feel free to ask.

Three other RISC OS applications and maintained:
    For an address book: Organizer.
For more general databases: Datapower or database by FireWorks.

The implication was that !Impact has more facilities and functions than !Powerbase. I seem to remember looking at both when I had my first RO5

wish I was clever enough to convert it to 32 bit and correct some of its' "sillys", which I did in an earlier version.

I do use !Fireworkz pro for some database aplications

Yes it can be used a flat database. it also uses the same mail merge
facilities that Powerbase uses via the Impulse module to either Ovation
Pro or Impression. Impcat also comes with ImpEmail , !LabPrint and
!DrawPrint - although all three of those extras can be brought separately

Is Masterfile still available for download? I used it as my first database
    back in the Archimedes days.

Another Database program is !DataPower Home for the more simple version,
still available not aware of any development on it for years.

Fireworkz Pro has a cust down version of DataPoer database as its database component. Note the free Fireworkz does not have the database part.

I suppose !Organizer could be used if wanting to just save a basic address
book as well, and still supported and in development.

The full version of !DataPower I have is version 3.16 March 2014, it has

Powerbase does in conjunction with Impression or Ovation Pro by

If it is a mail-merged report, then that will rely on the Impulse module,
which I maintain. I haven't issued a new version since 2012, though, so if Powerbase has recently gone wrong this won't be the cause.

No, 'tis completely self-contained within Powerbase.

I haven't used Powerbase for a long time, but while there seem to be
some odd issues in using the latest version of the program on ARMX6
(e.g. using the 'next record' button only updates Field 1, with the data displayed in the other fields remaining the same), making a Report was
one feature that on testing did seem to function as expected...

Given that the software is written in BBC BASIC, the only element that
ought to be affected by hardware issues is presumably the sliding heap
    module used for memory management?

Apparently it only uses the SlidingHeap library on RISC OS 3.1, so that shouldn't be the issue - there may of course be an error in the dynamic
area handling. Possibly a case of memory addresses too high (too much
memory available) rather than OS version?

Its not a ROM re-flash. R-Comp provide a simple upgarde program that does
all the work for you and also gives you the option to roll back to the
    previous version if you wish.

You download the update from the secure download site they provided the
details in the booklet that came with your computer.

Open the ZIP file, copy the installer on to your drive and then run it.
This installs the new version of the OS (shows you what its doing). The
window with the upgrade button also gives you a summary of the changes
    since the previous update, etc..

Once its installed it will advise you to reboot and thats it, your using
    the new OS version.

There is no ROM reflash - everything is on SD card and/or SSD.

Download the latest OS and Harddrive4 zips from the R-Comp site (I

OK, I downloaded and ran what appeared to be the relevant version (IMX6_OSupg20). I also spent forever downloading the 'Stuff Pack 12',
but on reading the innards of that it doesn't appear to have been
updated since Spring 2018, well before my computer was sent out - doing
the version check on ChangeFSI as suggested reports that I already have
the latest copy. So I haven't attempted to use that, especially since
my preferred hard disc layout is different to that of the default
supplied version (I'm *still* moving things to more logical positions
where I can find them, even after two years on the new OS!)

But I ran the OS upgrade program, and after rebooting it now reports
    RISC OS 5.29 (01 Feb 22) and Window Manager 5.84 (29 Dec 2021). It
hasn't cured the original redraw problem in Powerbase, though. :-(

An interesting further observation (re Powerbase) is that if I create a
report and then jump to a specific record by double-clicking on the
report window, then the field I double-clicked on *does* get updated
correctly, in addition to the main index field (which is the only one
updated when you use Go To Next/Previous Record). But none of the
other fields in the record are redrawn.

I have been following this thread from the start and although I have yet
to see the problem with reporting I have found an issue which occurs in
    version 10.32DA (28-11-2021) and not version 9.85DA (08-07-2012).

I haven't used Powerbase in some years and thought I'd revisit it out of interest. I started by working through a tutorial which requires one to
use a supplied database (!Elements). It falls over, in 10.32DA, when
trying to add a record with "Message from Powerbase Corrupt PrimaryKey
file! Next 'free' record (#103) is actually in use and continuing would overwrite it at 10997 (Powerbase must quit at once)"

This doesn't happen in the older version of Powerbase and I wonder if
this (and maybe the reporting problem) occurs when opening databases
created in older versions of Powerbase in the latest version?
