I discovered an unexpected effect while testing this, which is that when

    I don't remember this previously, but I don't use Viewer->Save as

Viewer->Save as Draw seems to be fine.

Yep had the same issue here.

    RISCOS 5.29 (01 Feb 2022) ARMX6.
    Screen 1920 x 1080 16m colours

Tried viewing the Sprite in Paint/Imagemaster and both the same.

    Harriet,
Here on VRPC-DL RISC OS 6.20 I don't have any problem with the thumbnail
    output as Sprite.

The sub directory displays in the Sprite thumbs correctly.

However, on RPCEmu 0.9.4 and RISC OS 5.29 as you note, the thumbnail
output in Sprite form has the concentric rainbow circles.

    Dave

Nb. As you note the Drawfile outputs display okay on both RISC OS versions.

I'm on 5.27 - it makes sense that it might be something to do with the

It happens on earlier versions of Thump as well.

If you go in to the resources (open iconbar Apps and right click the
close icon to go up) the directory sprite in wimp sprites shows a
very similar effect when selected. Paint shows the sprite is 256
colour with a 'full palette'. Is Thump getting confused over the
    sprite type?

The directory sprite in 6.20 is 256 colours but no Palette and Dave

Strange as I saved it out and then loaded in to Paint and did info on it.

And yes it went Orange when I selected it in Resources :-)

RiscPC is now been put away again..that will teach me.

Sorry - I was assuming that everyone using modern hardware, OS etc

My OS (on a computer less than a year old) doesn't have a Sprites22 file
in Resources... presumably because a Mode 20 file *is* square-pixel as
opposed to the old desktop sprites?

Hmmm - just checked. The ARMX6 has sprites, sprites22, and sprites11.
The IGEPv5 however only has sprites. Odd. I thought they all had the
    higher res sprites now.

Yes... I've just checked my 5.29 install, 16 bloomin' colours...
    Why?

I've also run the new Thump in VRPC-DL RISC OS 4.39, and again no problem
    with the sprite thumbnail output.

I have been doing a bit more digging on 5.29. It looks like the
    sprites22 and sprites11 are now in !Boot.Resources.!ThemeDefs.Themes.

Is this due to storage constraints in the 5.29 ROM, which has been
    getting bigger?

Anyway, none of this explains the oddness with saving out as sprite a
viewer containing the dir icon (actual thumbnails of images seem
    fine).

    Yes, (01/02/2022)
I looked at the old system sprites, they are all in mode 20 with a
    palette.
The Sprite output file is in 16M colors, it may be a conversion problem.

I just found another bug, in viewer->save as draw, if the directory
contains an archive/Zip directory, the icon is not exported, the file name
    is present.

It doesn't seem to be a general problem with sprites with palettes. I
tried Mode 28 sprites and a Mode 27 sprite with an edited palette, but
the icon viewer save was fine.
