• Facebook on Netsurf

From Harriet Bazley@21:1/5 to All on Thu Oct 17 23:51:58 2024
Facebook have put out an announcement that "In order to enhance security
and optimize the user experience, well be removing features from
facebook.com on older versions of mobile browsers" and that
in consequence "Facebook will not be available on this browser [Netsurf] starting from 28 October 2024. To continue using Facebook, get a
    supported browser."

So m.facebook.com will no longer be accessible as a convenient
    stripped-down version using Netsurf.

I'm actually quite surprised they bothered maintaining a separate Javascript-free version for as many years as they did... though simply
enabling JS in Netsurf doesn't change the message, so presumably the
site is doing specific browser checks to weed out all 'unsupported'
    software.

There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works.

I realise Netsurf is a noble effort against the odds but what really
shocks me is that you found a website that works at all. I can't even
get into my router or NAS with it and most of the web is a big no no.

    Bob.

It's my default browser for obtaining information (on the occasions when
I try to use Iris for something that won't work with Netsurf, almost
invariably Iris doesn't work either) - I have simply learnt not to
follow up the search results that appear from sites like Reddit or Quora
    but cannot be viewed....

Have you reported any of your specific issues with certain sites with as
much information as possible to RISC OS Developments? if they are not
aware, then little can be fixed!

Oh I can confirm your issue you mentioned in another thread with reddit.

I use Iris everyday, and have few issues. Very rarely use NetSurf
    nowadays.

My Iris download said basically "we know there are problems, please
don't flood us with reports", so I never have. :-(

    | Please think twice before reporting issues - if you do, collate
    | things together so that we aren't bombarded.
    |
    | DO NOT EXPECT A REPLY. This is not us being discourteous, but
    | support for Iris is an unpaid role, and a time consuming one.
    | Rest assured that we *do* read emails, and pass them on to
    | programmers as necessary.
    |
    | We don't have the resources/time to handle a lot of feedback yet.
    | A bug-reporting web database (powered by RISC OS) is under
    | development, but is not yet ready for public use. Expect more
    | info on this in a future update.
    |
    | We're well aware of issues, and are working to make things better
    | all the time. For now, please just enjoy it for what it is.
    | We'll let you know when we're at a feedback stage.
