• Locking directories, files etc

From Chris Newman@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 29 22:16:33 2024
    Hi,

At the moment I'm using Paul Vigay's !LockDir to password protect a
    directory.
It works well but needs to be running and that's another icon on the bar.

Is there anything else available which is 32 bit safe?

    Regards,

Could be my FileAccess application a solution for you? Unfortunately it is
an old program and I not wrote an English manual for it. Only the explanation of the module commands is English until now.

Thanks Thomas. I ran the help file through Google translate in chunks
(There is a 1000 character limit) but I'm still puzzled as to how to use
it. I double clicked on the application and nothing happened as far as I
could see. Translation available if you wan it.

    I can't get to http://thomas-milius-stade.dnshome.de today.

Meanwhile, Chris, do share the help file in German and English.

I have the Obey type help file from inside the app - German, and a
translation of the main bulk in English. In Google translator I had to do
that in very many small chunks as there is a character limit.
Is it OK to send zip file to the news list?

Don't send a zip file via usenet (news list as you call it) as it will
likely be blocked. Usenet is primarily intended to be a text only medium.
There are I believe a few very specific usenet groups that will sometimes accept attachment, but is still dependant on the usenet servers accepting
them and depends on their policy.

Either put on a website or maybe send to Bernard direct.

I'd recommend DeepL instead. It usually does a noticeable better job than Google Translate, and since it is a German program, it should be well
    equipped for this very task.

There were quite a few .binary newsgroups iirc from my dim and distant
    past.

Received, and a fresh translation produced. So far copied only to Chris
