• Moving files between directories in FTPc

From Harriet Bazley@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 24 10:32:49 2024
I wanted to move some files into a subdirectory of my webspace in order
to tidy things up a bit: the FPTc user manual says "To move a group of
files into a subdirectory of a directory you should select the files and
enter directory/subdirectory in the Move to dialogue box". However I
can't find a "Move to..." option in the Selection menu, or indeed
anywhere else; "Change directory" just changes the currently displayed directory.

In the end I managed to do it by opening a second FTPc window onto the
same site and Shift-dragging the files from the one view to the other, desktop-style, which somewhat to my surprise actually worked! I am
still puzzled by the absence of a "Move to" in the menu structure - has
it changed since the recommendations in the manual were originally
    written?

In my version of the manual it states

"you can only move files (shift drag) around the same site"

so it would seem moving files has become a drag and drop operation. This
is with my version of FTPc 1.41 March 2003.

v1.41 is rather old ... and Harriet does not say which version she is
    using.

However, I am using v1.56 (03 Jun 2020) and cannot find a 'Move to'
dialogue by testing, or in the Res file - though the manual does say
'"To move a group of files into a subdirectory of a directory you
should select the files and enter directory/subdirectory in the Move
    to dialogue box".

It also still says "you can only move files (shift drag) around the
    same site"

Seems to be the same in FTPc 1.56 (32bit) 3 June 2020

This is only possible if you have 2 FTPc windows of the same site, what
    Harriet did.

Mine is 2017! (Although the datestamp on the user manual quoted above
    is 2006....)
