See what everybody thought was important to know in 1992!
[actually, I more was surprised to learn Windows still
had a command-line FTP client. It's been a long time
since I used it... or plain old FTP, for that matter.]

Let us know so we can update the c.s.i.p.g FAQ. Else people won't know
where they can download Doom and other shareware games! ;-)

The best part of the FAQ for me was the suggestion that people use
"FLAME:" in their topics for when they were just going to
rant/flame/complain so people could filter it out if they wanted. The
idea that people would have that much consideration was amazingly
naive. It really was a much more innocent age of computing. ;-)
I wonder what header I'd have to use in my subject lines for all of my
posts. I didn't see a "PATENT NONSENSE:" tag.

then we'd be back to where we were.
At the very least, every post you make should be tagged in this way. We >should start doing tags just for fun and see how it works out.
Recommendations:
"FREEBIE:"
"RANT:"
"C-SUITE:"
"TOMFOOLERY:"
"SERIOUS:"
"MYSOGYNY:"
"NEEDLESSLY ARGUMENTATIVE:"
"GETOFFMYLAWN:"
"CURMUDGEON:"
That last should apply to myself and Xocyll at the least.

Touch. That indeed is the most frequently asked question in this
newsgroup (asked monthly for almost twenty years now).
But what is the Frequently Responded Answer to that question?
(I mean, I could tell you... but not for another two days ;-)

A FAQ: WTF is c.s.i.p.games newsgroup? Hahaha. ;)
Actually, that was a common "first question" of most newsgroup FAQs;
e.g., "what is this newsgroup all about".
If you were really going to do it, you'd also have to explain the
existence of the other newsgroups (including the root c.s.i.p.games >newsgroup) and that, while they still exist, you're best chance of a
response is to post to c.s.i.p.g.action regardless of the genre.
See? Now you have several questions for your FAQ! The job is
practically done already. So get started! ;-)

90s Usenet would go fucking
insane if they had to deal with modern gaming, where every title has
RPG elements, action elements, strategy elements, and the world design
is so sophisticated you can declare it a simulation too. The flame
wars would rival the sun's core in heat ;-)

Yeah. Given '20s gaming, we'd probably all have started discussing every
game in .action anyways, simply out of sheer frustration. Even Telltale's Batman point-and-click adventure game has quicktime sequences, IIRC.
But we'd never post to the main group. That thing is a mess! Hell, I've
never even pulled the main group because I don't have enough drive space
to retain all those posts.

a terrible storm, we all wound up here. The tiny ship of c.s.i.p.games
was rocked, and ran aground on the island of "action." Sure, there are
other groups named comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.[thingy] -- or even the main
group! -- but this is the only place that matters because it's the only
one with traffic. Only pedants use the other subgroups, because we used
to care if rpg talk was in .rpg, because there was a *lot* of traffic.
Now we all live on this island, and we're happy here.
"Think of it as a vast ecosystem that was hit by a plague. All but one island, Gilligan's, is bereft of life, and therefore purpose. What's left
is us. We're on Gilligan's Island, "aka" comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action,
and we're not putting down our coconuts. Grab one, hook up some string,
and stay a while."
How's that for a starter?

*.strategy gets a handful of comments here and there too. Most of the
newest *.adventure comments seem to be crossposts from here, though.
The others are even less active.
No, for better or worse, *.action is the place to be.

If you're talking about cspig with nothing after that doesn't even seem
to be available on Eternal-September.
