Gog, I hate giving _any_ praise to EA and, anyway, we all know the
real answer to the rhetorical question in the topic. Still, you gotta
wonder what's going on at EA HQ that these superficially
customer-focused decisions are being made? What new evil is spawning
at EA that they have to try and disguise it with these good ideas?
This time, it's that they're giving gamers the choice of what
components to install with the soon-to-be-released "Battlefield 6" in
order to keep storage requirements low. The game has a base install of
55GB, but there's another 25GB of data that you can chose to install
or not.* Which is something games USED to offer back in the day, but disappeared once digital downloads became mainstream. It's good to see
it back as a choice.
It's a shame that the rest of the "Battlefield 6" experience looks so unappealing (early reviews indicate its multiplayer is more akin to
the frenetic nonsense of modern "Call of Duty" gameplay than the
classic team-based games of the older "Battlefield" games) because
these recent technical aspects --first the not needing Origin/EA App,
now this 'only install the components you want' option-- are the sorts
of things I WANT to see in a game.
Still, I mostly waiting for the other shoe to drop. EA's probably
going to end up summoning Cthulhu** or something, and then wondering
why we still don't love them.
