• Re: God of War: Rakgnarok for PC requires PSN account

Yep! And I almost immediately requested a refund. I really liked the
last one but I do not remember having to register a Playstation
    account for the PC version.

Well, I'm sure that will make PC gamers happy. There's nothing they
like more than being forced to sign up for yet another extraneous
    service... especially for a stand-along single-player game. I don't
even have to go to the store page to guess that the game is probably
(and rightfully, IMHO) being review-bombed for this requirement.

At least Sony was more upfront with this requirement than it was with "Helldivers 2", making it clear from the start that if you wanted
"Ragnarok" you were going to have to get a PSN account. Still, this
minimal extra transparency doesn't make the requirement any more
    welcome.

Especially since PSN isn't available in all regions (which means that
people in some countries won't be able to play the game at all), and
-at least in some areas- creating a PSN account either requires
sharing your cell-phone number with Sony, or showing them government
    ID to prove your identity.

And all this for "God of War: Ragnarok"? It was an okay game, but I
never saw it as a stand-out game. It wasn't one of those 'must have'
titles. "Helldivers 2" received a lot more hype, and even with that
game Sony had to back down on the PSN requirement (that requirement
also arguably made more sense, since it was an online game).

Maybe this sort of crap is what Playstation CEO Hideaki Nishino meant
when he said PCs were "too difficult to set up." If only there was
something he could have done about that...

Creating new accounts for a game is an instant turnoff for me.

Yeah, me too. I have Steam, GOG, Uplay, EA and BattleNet.

I actually had to think for a minute or so to see if I forgot any.
That tells me that is definitely enough!

Steam and GoG also although it's possible that I do have some other
accounts that I've forgotten about. The last game I bought that had its
own client was I think Battlefield 1 as it was dirt cheap on Steam. The

That's definitely a part of it. The nice thing about Amazon is they are probably going to have what you want at decent price and you know up
front if anything goes wrong it's fairly hassle free.

Saying that I do try and avoid them if I can so for books/CDs/DVDs I go
to World of Books and for a lot of other stuff I use a shop called
Argos*. That in many ways is a relic of the old days when someone took
the idea of buying things from a catalogue at home and said maybe we can
have a physical store with the twist that all the goods are stored in a warehouse which is part of the store. So walk in, place your order and
give it to a cashier. Wait maybe five minutes and hey presto you have
your item. Of course it has moved with the times so now they have an
online presence and in-shop it's all touch screen terminals for placing
your order - so no longer a source of free pens.

*The catalogue has basically become iconic in the UK and for those of
the right age is know as the laminated books of dreams.

Understandable but not really an option in the US. The last remaining
book seller competition to Amazon here is Barnes & Noble and they are a
shadow of what they used to be. They were also the only brick-n-mortar alternative for CDs/DVDs/BRs but I don't even know if they stock those
anymore. Walmart and to other stores that used to sell optical discs
have all stopped because of streaming, though that's not really Amazon's
doing. All the rights holding studios are responsible for the
destruction of the disc market, trying to kill the at home viewing on
disc for streaming by preventing consumers from actually owning a copy.
Even RedBox is kaput, folded up and went bankrupt shortly after Netflix
shut down their disc by mail rental arm.

World of Books is an online operation only (based not that far from were

books/CDs/DVDs. For books it's really good value as you can get a
hardback in very good condition for probably an average of £5 if that.
