Well, I'm sure that will make PC gamers happy. There's nothing they
like more than being forced to sign up for yet another extraneous
service... especially for a stand-along single-player game. I don't
even have to go to the store page to guess that the game is probably
(and rightfully, IMHO) being review-bombed for this requirement.
At least Sony was more upfront with this requirement than it was with "Helldivers 2", making it clear from the start that if you wanted
"Ragnarok" you were going to have to get a PSN account. Still, this
minimal extra transparency doesn't make the requirement any more
welcome.
Especially since PSN isn't available in all regions (which means that
people in some countries won't be able to play the game at all), and
-at least in some areas- creating a PSN account either requires
sharing your cell-phone number with Sony, or showing them government
ID to prove your identity.
And all this for "God of War: Ragnarok"? It was an okay game, but I
never saw it as a stand-out game. It wasn't one of those 'must have'
titles. "Helldivers 2" received a lot more hype, and even with that
game Sony had to back down on the PSN requirement (that requirement
also arguably made more sense, since it was an online game).
Maybe this sort of crap is what Playstation CEO Hideaki Nishino meant
when he said PCs were "too difficult to set up." If only there was
something he could have done about that...
I have those plus PSN, Nintendo, Epic, Amazon*, Apple, Google*,
Microsoft and Roblox. I've probably got some others that I haven't used
in so long I don't remember.

Yeah, me too. I have Steam, GOG, Uplay, EA and BattleNet.
I actually had to think for a minute or so to see if I forgot any.
That tells me that is definitely enough!
Steam and GoG also although it's possible that I do have some other
accounts that I've forgotten about. The last game I bought that had its
own client was I think Battlefield 1 as it was dirt cheap on Steam. The
good thing was it meant I could finally get to use the refund option!
Basically if a game isn't on Steam or GoG I just won't get it even as a freebie.

"The Amazon Effect". Getting spoiled by one-stop shopping.

That's definitely a part of it. The nice thing about Amazon is they are probably going to have what you want at decent price and you know up
front if anything goes wrong it's fairly hassle free.
Saying that I do try and avoid them if I can so for books/CDs/DVDs

I think I have Epic(?), whatever was needed for the Just Cause series.
Now I'm Linux-only, and just use Steam. Haven't found it to be a
hindrance yet, latest purchases were _Tiny Tina's Wonderland_
and _Fort Solis_.
Not done with _Tiny Tina's Wonderland_ yet, looking forward to
_Fort Solis_ based on the discussion in this very 'froup.
Thank you all (esp. Spalls!) for your continued discussion.
Heheh, don't take it personally. I'd continue the discussion even if
there was nobody here
(as many people here will probably attest ;-)

Understandable but not really an option in the US. The last remaining
book seller competition to Amazon here is Barnes & Noble and they are a shadow of what they used to be. They were also the only brick-n-mortar alternative for CDs/DVDs/BRs but I don't even know if they stock those anymore. Walmart and to other stores that used to sell optical discs
have all stopped because of streaming, though that's not really Amazon's doing. All the rights holding studios are responsible for the
destruction of the disc market, trying to kill the at home viewing on
disc for streaming by preventing consumers from actually owning a copy.
Even RedBox is kaput, folded up and went bankrupt shortly after Netflix
shut down their disc by mail rental arm.

World of Books is an online operation only (based not that far from were
I live strangely enough) which deals mostly in second hand books/CDs/
DVDs. For books it's really good value as you can get a hardback in very
good condition for probably an average of £5 if that.
I think they do have an operation in the US.

Yeah, are ya?
No, we are not.
(Yes we are)
We're not!
(I'm telling you, we are.)
<I agree; I think we are>
Oh shut-up; who asked you!
<How rude>
(Somebody is grumpy today)
I'm not grumpy!
(Then just admit you're talking to yourself)
<Admit it! Admit it!>
Fine!
