Epic's doing this thing recently and I hate it. Not the 'give away
free games every Thursday'; I like that. What would I write about on Thursdays if Epic stopped its give-aways? But now they're HIDING what
the next game will be until it's actually released. Why is that a
problem? Because now I have to wait like all the other rubes before
writing up my announcement! How can I prepare the weekly spin if I
can't do it the night before! The fiends!
And what game are these fiends offering today?, Well, let's find out.
* Farming Simulator 22 https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/farming-simulator-22
Huh. This was what Epic felt needed to be kept under
wraps? Not that I really have anything against the game
-after all, who am I, somebody who revels in truck-driving
sims, to speak against one where you drive a combine
harvester?- but this is a pretty humdrum workplace sim...
and one overburdened with DLC to boot. Its reputedly pretty
poorly put together too, with some serious performance
issues; a cash grab to profit off the success of the earlier
"Farming Simulator" games. And despite the trailer's promise
of "free DLC", there don't seem to be an free add-ons
available on the Epic store. Still, The Number compels, so
I must push "Add to Cart".
Well, hopefully Epic won't be so secretive next week (narrator: they
will be). This current trend of 'mystery games' is almost making these announcements feel like work ;-)

I could swear that DLC wasn't there as a freebie when I made my post.
I think Epic is purposefully trying to drive me crazy.
Well, at least their trailer isn't lying anymore. And I always wanted
a free grain silo.

You mean a virtual silo?

Farming Simu... oh for...
I know, I know, people like this kind of game. But they feel like
torture to me. I just really don't care about them at all.
I was surprised to find a whole magazine dedicated to it in the local
village store when I last visited my parents though. In Germany there is
an actual honest-to-god paper magazine covering ONLY the Farming
Simulator games.
Did I mention this was the village shop? Basically nearly everybody
there has at least one tractor standing in the shed (my dad has two) and
has at least some small field somewhere.
Why people would feel the need to play tractor simulator then I never
will understand, but I remember my brother getting into it.
He lives on a farm! Why do you do that?!!

Now you know how your Auntie May feels about you playing 'murder
simulators' like "Doom". 'How could you possibly find something like
that enjoyable, dearie? I just don't understand it at all!' ;-)
Different strokes for different folks, and all that. And while the
appeal of the "Farming Simulator" games is lost upon me, I can
understand it intellectually, at least. There's a certain romantic
mystique to farming: owning a huge tract of land, building it up to
match your vision, watching things grow. Not to mention all the cool
machines you get to play around with! In real life, it requires a lot
of work, dedication and -too often- heartbreak, but the video games
give you the dream without the pain.
Why people would feel the need to play tractor simulator then I never

Probably the same reason I enjoyed that "PC Building Simulator" game,
even though I have real hardware at hand. It's something I know and
enjoy, but the game gives me more options than I'd ever have in real
life.
