Hi Folks
My loved R50e has started giving problem with its USB ports. On
booting an USB icon appears in the taskbar and when clicked reports 2
unknown USB devices. Even after resetting, (the window offers a reset
option) the condition remains. Under this condition I am unable to use
a mouse or a pen drive.
Invalid driver.
I am using XPSP3, Windows 7 when instaled was very very slow so I did
not upgrade.
Use linux if you cant run more recent windows. Try 10, uses less resource
than 7 here. XP is not a viable option unless you are purely using offline, very insecure. MS dropped support in 2014.
Interestingly whem I booted up with a linux live disk the USB works
ok. Thinking it to be a software problem I reinstalled XP and
installed all the drivers but the problem persists.
Its a software problem. Just unsure of how to troubleshoot.
I have another 15.6 inch Samsung Lappie but I love to use the Thinkpad
all the time.
What could be the reason for this USB problem? Any help will be
greatly apreciated.
Honestly, no clue. Try different versions of intel platform driver for XP,
try things like setting clock back a couple years. Really though, support
for XP is long dropped. Check out Linux or OpenBSD.
Regards,
Joe
