  • Thinkpad is off

    and stays off.
    Shut down normally last night, today I pressed the button as usual to
    turn it on, but it doesn't respond.
    The only thing that happens is when you unplug the power adapter and
    plug it back in again, the power button light and the red dot in the
    cover flash three times.

    Does anyone have any idea how I can track down the problem?

    If the flash patten isn't revealing, I'd first open it up and
    reseat the connector to the board with the power button. If the
    the motherboard is ignoring the power button signal, then try
    disconnecting anything connecting to it, including switching
    the RAM for a spare stick, the CPU too as a last resort (if
    you conveniently have a spare).

    I had this problem recently with an X260. The red dot flash just
    indicates that the power has just been plugged in. In my case, the
    problem was that the battery was empty, and the power adapter was not
    supplying power (despite being recognized as present). I had another
    compatible power adapter, and plugging it in solved the problem; the
    original power adapter was dead.
