  • Bluetooth for R51

    I have a R51 that came without bluetooth. What is the best way- replace
    modem board or use one of the bluetooth usb adapters- to get bluetooth capability. Am on XP right now but thinking of going to xubuntu or mint.

    Thinkwiki.org is a good source of info for Thinkpads, here's their page
    on the R51:

    Their page on its Bluetooth adapter says it will work with the standard
    Linux Bluetooth drivers, so it should all work without having to install anything with most distros: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/IBM_Integrated_Bluetooth_III_with_56K_Modem_(BMDC-2)

    Presumably the XP drivers must work OK, in which case it would probably be
    a good idea to go with the built-in adapter and at least save having to plug
    in a USB device all the time. That's assuming it's not too hard to get a
    hold of one.

    Thinkwiki indicates some bios problem that the type 2883 seems to have
    with the BMDC-2 modem that is used in other R51 Thinkpads so the usb may
    be the easiest alternative.
