  • Hello from 9640 News BBS

    Hey folks. I am in the process of linking a BBS I have to this group through a Fidonet gateway.

    Hopefully, after AT&T repairs my internet line, I will be back online and able to take Telnet logins to the BBS. The board is at 9640News.ddns.net:9640 when things are back online. It will be another week or so as I have to wait for AT&T. After
    replacing the AT&T router with another AT&T router, I am pretty sure it is a line issue. Whether it is a loose wire or connection, or perhaps Mr. Ground Hog digging near where my line comes into the house, I do not presently know.

    My suspicion is Mr. Ground Hog nicked my line after he cleaned up his entrance after I filled it in this summer after I eradicated one of his offspring. All I can say is Baby Ground Hog was tender.

    The board will be predominantly supporting the TI-99/4A and Geneve 9640 computers. I've got right now nearly 3000 files online and adding to it as I can.

    That is great! Does it happen to run on one of those type of machines?
    Several years ago, there was a fob you could buy that attached to the 99/4A
    (I forget which port) which would allow it to be hooked up to ethernet and, supposedly, the internet.

    For a kid whose 4A did not even have a coupler modem, that is a big step in
    his adult mind. :D

    That is great! Does it happen to run on one of those type of machines? Several years ago, there was a fob you could buy that attached to the 99/4A (I forget which port) which would allow it to be hooked up to ethernet and, supposedly, the internet.

    The board is running on a Win10-64 machine using Mystic BBS software. I have a TI-99/4A and a Geneve 9640 both with Myarc HFDC's and hard drives, however, I have concerns the MFM hard drives may not be sufficiently reliable to stay online running around
    the clock. Those drives are about 30 years old and difficult to replace now.

    I am hoping the TIPI project that will interface with a Raspberry PI may provide some options for file access and storage. Both my TI and Geneve have ethernet/telnet access with the Lantronix UDS-10 and a WiFiRS232 modem.
