• Dan II Controller?

From Andrew Roughan@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 20 23:26:28 2025
Does anyone have a Dan II Controller?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126948065563

I’d like to have a benchmark comparison for it.

    Regards
    Andrew

I haven't got one, nor had I heard of it. For others that are
interested (perhaps you already knew about these), there's an
applefritter post on it that links to the project's github page:

    - https://github.com/profdc9/Apple2Card

I'd be interested to know the throughput of it as well.

Hi Andrew, I have one. How should I proceed to benchmark it? With SPF? Or on
    a IIgs with Benchmarked?

On a IIgs with Benchmarked please. Use a 16MB image to cut out after the 4K test.
Please add your results to the spreadsheet.
Dan may also be doing this, so if you find his results there, think of a combination he hasn’t tried (e.g with or without accelerator or different speeds, or different micro sd media?)
    Thanks!
    Andrew

Actually, it is an 8MB image.
I have uploaded here in case it helps: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eQlhr7m55ccqB4TkRCuorqhPHSoYTiXo/view?usp=sharing
It includes the Benchmarked software, so you can boot a regular 6.0.4 image
to start and then execute benchmarked from this image.

    Hi Andrew,

Please add your results to the spreadsheet.

I can't follow which spreadsheet is meant here. Is that some private thing?
I'm asking because I wonder if it would make sense to add results for A2retroNET.

    Regards,
    Oliver

Benchmarked has a spreadsheet to track results. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiZOz6GbGMJudGVoR0hiWDRXMlZfSnRtZUVjWXMwNWc#gid=0

Benchmarked has a spreadsheet to track results. [...]

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for pointing out :-)

    Hi Andrew,

sorry I did not give you an ETA. My problem is, my GS and my DAN Card are at different storages. I will only have access to the card on march 14th. I
could give you results the day after. Would that still make the deadline?

Unfortunately not. But I would still be interested to see the results when
you are able to provide them.

    Thanks
    Andrew

I have some more time because the whole issue is now in review. My
contribution is laid out, but a minor update could still be possible.

That's great! Again, sorry for the delay. It took me some additional time
to set all up. I tried to update the Dan ][ Firmware from 3.3.2 to 3.4.1 on
my IIgs but no sync was possible. Not sure what it means. Anyway. I updated
    the list.
The block tests were failing with the 8MB image you provided, so I had to
use the 32MB image from brutal deluxe.
    Here the summary:
    Read block 64K 29 KB/s
    Read block-by-block 25 KB/s
    File read ~24 KB/s
    File write ~24 KB/s
It seems to be among the slower solutions. I think for a II+ or IIe it is
quite nice, given the availability of the components and the menu based
    image selection.

Results for the Dan ][ have been added to the spreadsheet. Thanks to
whomever was responsible for this. I have updated my submission to include them.

Thank you for the results. I have included them. For the IIgs, the MicroDrive/Turbo is a decent option in the same price point.
The UltimateDrive will blow everything away for speed, but the price has
    not yet been revealed.

    Andrew
