Used T5120s are available cheaply. I am thinking of buying one to play

I have one, running Solaris 10, and am quite pleased with it.
However -- the CPUs used are special versions of the UltraSPARC,
which are tailored for lots of small processes. As a result, it makes a
very good file server, but is not the machine to use for heavy math work
or image processing.
Note that you have three choices of number of built-in disk
drives. 4, 8 (which I have), and 16. The 8 and 16 are nice for
running RAID using zfs.
And note that some will have hardware RAID in them, and if you
want to bypass that, you need to pull the card, and replace the cables
which run from the card to sockets on the system board. (And the cables
are different numbers and different lengths and bend locations.) So try
to purchase the one with the setup you want -- hardware RAID or not.
Also -- note that the drive carriers are different from those
used on the T2000, the X4200, and the X4100M2 (which I also have), so
the first trick is to find what the carriers are called on eBay, if your
system does not come with a full set of carriers.
Also -- you may have one or two CPU chips. And you will want
lots of memory with those CPUs.
Enjoy,
DoN.
