I could swear I had this Atari 2600 emulator on my Power Mac 6100/66
back in the day. But I cannot locate it or even remember the name. It's like it perished from the surface of earth. It's not "Stella", which was released later. It ran it on System 7.5 (I think!) and it was rather bare-bones but played the games. I think I found it through a mention in
a print magazine, but no luck finding that article either.
Does someone remember the name or knows where to find it?
Any help appreciated!
Are you sure it was an actual emulator? There are some Atari 2600 game
packs which ran on System 7+, such as:
- Activision's Atari 2600 Action Pack

- Activision's Atari 2600 Action Pack 2

According to the blog page below, these game packs can also be altered
to run any Atari 2600 ROM: <https://metalbabble.wordpress.com/2020/07/23/atari-2600-emulation-for-classic

Thank you (and Ant) for the suggestions. To answer your question, yes, it was an
actual emulator. Somebody recently uploaded an older version of Stella to the Mac Garden which runs on System 7 - albeit PPC only.
However, in the documentation of that Stella version I've found a lead:
Q. Will there ever be a 68040 version of Stella?
A. Now that the Game Sprockets technology has been jettisoned, the prospects for
doing a 68040 version of Stella are better. Unfortunately, some compiler limitations have prevented me from releasing version 0.7 for 68040 machines; hopefully I'll be able to find a workaround for the future. I have also heard that another author is working on a 68040 version; check the Stella WWW page for
updated information on that front.
That "other version" might have been the one I'm remembering.
Who said the net doesn't forget anything? Search for late 90's emulators info and it's like the proverbial needle in the haystack ...
