• Reading AIX Backup File Format diskettes [AIX PTF0024 U436295 - OPSYS f

From Louis Ohland@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 14 15:16:19 2025
I'd like to open the U436295 - OPSYS image, but 7zip and WinImage both
give an error that the *.IMG is not an image file. I would like to
    snuffle around the diskette.

It seems that the *.IMG has the *.BFF diskette image inside. WinImage
and 7zip both balk in opening the IMG...

Looking for any man pages or text-ish readable files...

I *think* (but am not sure, of course, I've slept too many times since
then) that I may have created those image files back when I was doing
Special High Intensity Training for AIX 1.3 on my 9590. If so, I would
have used dd under AIX 1.3 or (under Windows XP) either rawrite or EMT4WIN.

If I wasn't so lazy I'd pull the image and try extracting it using rawrite/EMT4WIN on my 8187 running Windows XP, but at the moment I'm not
    in the mood.

I dunno about that, but IIRC I had a similar issue and didn't find a
solution. IIRC those images were created by the backup command in AIX.

Maybe you can get a virtual AIX test system in the IBM cloud to try.
