• M-ACPA and MIDI out

From Louis Ohland@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jun 11 11:35:27 2023
I am curious, blue. Can the M-ACPA output MIDI over a serial port on a
Type 3 serial port? The Type 3 supports the MIDI rate of 31,250, -BUT-
    MIDI is not straight RS-232.

Serial Port Controller (HITR chapter, PDF) https://www.ardent-tool.com/docs/pdf/ibm_hitrc08.pdf

    page 45

The voltage levels are EIA-232-D only.
Current loop interface is not supported.

    https://www.compuphase.com/electronics/midi_rs232.htm
"MIDI uses a current loop signal line (5mA, usually at approximately
5V), rather than the standard voltage level signals. A logic 0 is
defined as current flowing, and a logic 1 as no current."

I'm no EE, BUT this circuit uses a MAX232, and my SWAG is there is no
"current loop" between the Serial port and the MAX232.

"The closest that most serial cards and/or drivers inside PCs can come
to the MIDI Baud rate is 28800 or 38400 Baud —exceeding the 1% margin
    that MIDI defines"

Not true for Type 3 DMA Serial ports. 31,250 baud is -directly-
    supported.
