I'm no EE, BUT this circuit uses a MAX232, and my SWAG is there is no
"current loop" between the Serial port and the MAX232.

to the MIDI Baud rate is 28800 or 38400 Baud —exceeding the 1% margin
that MIDI defines"
Not true for Type 3 DMA Serial ports. 31,250 baud is -directly-
supported.
