• Model 50 with Scsi and Kingston ram expansion card.

From Carsten Lyng@21:1/5 to All on Fri May 5 11:05:50 2023
I was taking the model 50, I got when i picked up my model 95 for a spin....
I wanted to install more ram in it, so I found a Kingston KTM-609/16 Plus II that I had for some time..... Installed a KTM-2000/M70 module in socket P1.
Fired up the machine and used the refdisk ( I put the right ADF-file on the disk)
Adapter was installed with 2 MB extended memory - machine rebooted and the memory is now 3MB

I then removed the harddrive, since it was bad ( kling klong noise ).
So I installed a Adaptec Aha-1640 in the machine and a 80 MB scsi drive with id:0, turned the machine on and used the refdisk to configure the controller.

Now after reboot and memory count I get this error.:

HOST ADAPTER NOT FOUND AT PORT SPECIFIED IN POS REGISTER.......hmmm.

I pulled out the Kingston card, used the refdisk to configure the system once more. And after reboot the controller reports:

    --------------------------------------
    Adaptec AHA-1640 SCSI BIOS
    Version 1.00
    Copyright 1992 Adaptec. Inc.
    All Rights Reserved

    Checking for scsi Target 0
SCSI target 0 installed as Drive c:
    Checking for SCSI target 1.

Then the machine boot up from the scsi disk..

Then I installed the kingston card once again, and I got the same error as before.

HOST ADAPTER NOT FOUND AT PORT SPECIFIED IN POS REGISTER

Pulling my hair out...I swapped the cards and tried once more...same result......

Then I wanted to try with only a SCSI/A adapter and SCSI disk (ID:6), but this does not work either...I get a red box with an error.:

"An error occurred during installation of an initialization program.
Select Test the Computer from the main menu to determine the cause of
    the problem."

I can t go to view configuration and see the controller and the scsi disk

When I reboot the machine I get error code 165 and have to run the refdisk and I get the same error ( the redbox ), when running automatic configuration.

Get the same error when using a SCSI/A with cache ( from my 95 )

I am using Refdisk 1.08 and the ADF files for the adapters are on the disk.
So how to crack this one.... I don´t know. Any ideas ??

It would be nice to have the Ram expansion card AND the Scsi controller in the model 50

I do have a Trantor T228 controller, but I have no idea what the ID for the Scsi disk should be ?.
It is a controller I used many years ago with a TallGrass FS120 tape streamer

I have used the Trantor controller, and the machine is now working with that one and the Kingston memory expansion adapter - :-)

I downloaded the dos drivers for the T228 on the tool page, made boot floppy with the ASPI driver, and formatted the
drive using the Tformat.exe program. Installed Dos 6.22 after the format was finished,

    I found some help here .: https://storage.microsemi.com/en-us/support/_eol/scsi_host_mc/t-228/install_sw/troubleshooting_trantor.htm?nc=/en-us/support/_eol/scsi_host_mc/t-228/install_sw/troubleshooting_trantor.htm

Same as on the tool page
