    Nah, i don't think solaris x86 is good for anything. even in its sparc reincarnation. Or with v11 x86. It's just crap :)
    Just try beat your head against a tree if you expect falling leaves - and leave that wall alone :P

    I would agree. There was a time when Solaris was perhaps the most
    popular UNIX due to seeding use in universities and therefore lots of
    people knew it and lots of open source software would compile easily on it.

    Those days are long past and you'd probably get more UNIX-like mileage
    out of Linux (maybe a vintage distro with a 2.4 kernel) or NetBSD
    depending on the drivers you need.
