For details, you'd pretty much have to be an IBM employee (as I was until a little over a year ago), and have a "need to know" (I did because I was the hardware engineer for the System z SE, HMC, and TKE), and then when you got the hardware you were
audited at least twice a year (my audit was quarterly because I had several) to make sure that still could place your hands on the adapter(s) assigned to you. And this was no self-audit, I had a manager (not my own manager), trot around with me checking
serial numbers. And God help you if you caused one of your adapters to brick itself (I did, once).
