    4755 CRYPTOGRAPHIC ADAPTER DESCRIPTION

    The cryptographic microprocessor on the Cryptographic Adapter
    is an 80186 microprocessor, with ROM (read-only memory), RAM (random
    access memory), a DEA engine, and other support logic, all integrated
    into a single encapsulated custom package. This level of integration
    and the incorporation of intrusion-resistant design techniques, are
    intended to provide protection against electromagnetic, chemical, and
    physical attacks on the cryptographic keys and other sensitive data
    that are stored on the custom module. The Cryptographic Adapter also
    includes the RS-232 communication interface for the Security
    Interface Unit, and a socket for plugging the signature processing
    module. A battery backup system is used to retain cryptographic keys
    in the secure memory. The memory is erased when the 4755 is removed
    from the workstation.

    Though I'd like to detail a 4755, it would turn out to be an exercise in futility. These puppies talk to a server that runs the security, and
    there isn't any hint of 4755 to 4755 communication.

    The level of DES and/or RSA is probably quite dated, and I'm not sure if
    the length of the key is current. 56? 128?

    At best, my hankering is to get a good picture, do component ID, and
    that is most likely it. Maybe the ADF for D77F is on a banking refdisk?
    Dunno. One of those "if you have to ask what it is, you don't need it"

    Like to see the inside of that silver enclosure. I bet the DES / RSA
    ASIC is fully IBM special MOJO.

    I have seen one 4755 on VCF. The later one, not sure of the P/N. Most
    likely the later one (-004 / -005, -014).

    Other than being "curious, Blue", this adapter is made from "Leaverite"
    as in "Leave 'er right" there.

    o Signature processing requires Signature Verification (#7446) and
    a 4755 Cryptographic Adapter in the workstation.

    Duh. If the SPM plugs into the 4755, it stands to reason the 4755 is required...

    A Signature Verification feature (#7446) is available to
    provide an additional level of personal identification.
