    Odd, the author sez the Model 50 needs a QBASIC program to set it to BiDi.

    Near the end, he says "forcing" non-BiDi to BiDi can be hard on the
    drivers. XIRCOM used that method on early PCs or PS/2s...

    He's probably just referring to the parallel port being in SPP mode after boot...
