  • Getting 22-year old all-in-one HP printer to work without cartridges???

    I have a laserjet that I spend plenty on in consumibles to dish out a
    hundred bucks just to get my old HP deskjet's printer's scanner to
    work on my collecting-dust- all-in-one printer.

    Is there any way to circumvent the need for unnecessary ink cartridges
    just to get one of the functions of the old deskjet printer to work,
    anyone know? Surely there must be a way.

    I'd be glad to pay the price if it were a one-time cost for the colour
    and black ink if these inks didn't go dry and I'd just have to dish
    our a ton of money the next time I wanted to use the scanner.

    Please advise and thank you in advance for any help in this regard!

    You're fighting deliberate design decisions by the manufacturer, so
    it's a tough ask. There are projects online for replacing the
    control electronics in particular models of inkjet printers.
    Trouble is, besides needing a strong ability with electronics,
    there's such an insane variety of different models that the odds of
    finding a project matching your particular printer model are next
    to nothing. Even going the other way and buying a used printer to
    suit an existing project proved impossible for me (though mainly
    because I'm in Australia, and this was many years ago).

    One possibly more practical option might be if you can get the
    cartirdges from a continuous ink system designed for your printer
    model (again you've got the "SO MANY MODELS!" problem though). The
    chips in them will have some way of being reset so the printer
    thinks the cartridges are new again.
