I don't like them turning on ForwardX11Trusted (assuming this is the
same as "ssh -Y"). I always use "ssh -X" myself.
Is turning on ForwardX11Trusted required to get this working on VMS ?

I have no idea. I am not really into X11 myself.
Also, X11 is very much legacy technology these days.
