PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - After months of being put on hold Oregons motor
voter registration, has resumed.
Starting Wednesday, Oregon DMV offices started sending records to the
Oregon Secretary of States office for automatic voter registration.
The program was put on hold in Oct. after clerical and policy errors were discovered that resulted in more than 1,600 people being mistakenly
registered to vote.
Only 17 voted in any election and many were later confirmed to be
citizens.
The DMV has since made changes to minimize the risk of error.
The secretary of states office is also making changes including random sampling of files, and daily control counts with the DMV.
At least once a year the Oregon Department of Transportation will host a
review panel from the secretary of states office.
The DMV continued to collect the records during the pause and will now
send that information to the secretary of states office.
