We might as well be discussing the "one true ice cream".

That would be plain vanilla made with real vanilla pods
and no rendered animal fats substituted for real cream.

I'm not sure that would work in the U.S., because we have
    labelling laws and regulations.

    - As indeed we do. In the UK, only *Dairy* Ice Cream is made
with just real cream; ordinary "ice cream" may have all sorts.

How about stabiliser gum and emulsifiers, etc. in the US?

Depends on the brand -- and they will appear in the federally-mandated
    list of ingredients.

We have a few local dairies in our county that offer ice creams. Cost
a bit more than the "usual" brands, but they are worth it. There's
    also Tillamook from Oregon:

I just looked at their vanilla bean, and it has "Tara Gum" and "Guar Gum". Compare with our local Straus Creamery:

I've always had a problem with a brand name chosen by a NYC Jew to sound vaguely Danish in an attempt to put lipstick on a pig. Then there is the
    lame attempts at DEI.

I sure as hell don't buy Ben and Jerry either, a pair of phony hippies.

I don't eat that much ice cream, maybe two or three servings a year, but I prefer one of the local companies. It's not always on the menu but The Big Dipper's cardamon is great. At $7.25 for a double cone it damn well better
    be.
