I don't know if they plugged the loophole but previously if it wasn't
connected to the internet you could create a local user and go on with
the
install.
They make it harder and harder to avoid creating the MS account, there's
still ways and means, but it's easier to install with a throwaway MS
account, then create a local account, make sure you save the BitLocker
encryption key which may get saved there, finally nuke the MS account
from the machine.
Its like owning an android phone. You seem to need a gmail account.
Only if you want to install additional apps that aren't in the
initial default set. The default set on a Schok Classic 4G flip
phone includes a web browser, an app to take photos, and several
other things. With a few/several steps to enable it, it even
allows developer mode and USB debugging, so that adb can be used
to retrieve the photos (but apparently not the content of text
messages).
I have nostalgia for the days when people spent money on developing
better products, not on lockins and marketing.
I'll second that. I also long for the days when development
money was spent on making a product _WORK_ and not just on making
it _SELL_. That's why I choose to use Linux. The only Microsoft
product I'm aware of in my house is on the laptop that belongs to
my employer.
