• "Keep" list app -- unable to move list items

From Dudley Brooks@21:1/5 to All on Mon Aug 12 18:26:20 2024
(I would have posted this to one of the Google ng's ... except that I
have never received ANY answer to ANYTHING I posted on those groups!)

I have created a List in Keep for Android.

I want to indent some items.

    The online instructions

    https://support.google.com/keep/answer/6395451?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid#zippy=%2Cchange-the-order-for-new-checklist-items

    say

"On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Keep app.
    "Choose a list.
"At the left of the item you want to indent, tap and hold Move [six dots].
"Drag the item to the right. To undo, drag it to the left.
"Note: You can’t indent the first item in the list.

It doesn't work. I tap and hold the six dots and try to slide right ...
and nothing happens. I have tried repeatedly. (And no, it's NOT the
    first item on the list.]

    Any suggestions?

Woks fine here, do the "move dots" also fail to let you slide items up
    and down the list?

If you lay your phone down on its back, and then try the "move dots",
does it work? If so, you're probably making an accidental touch of the
screen edge wile grasping the phone.

    Can't do that either.

Good idea ... but it still doesn't work.

But something interesting, which I had actually noticed before: The
window that the list appears in is all the way to the left, so that the
dots are very near the left edge. And I can't find any way to move the
    window to the right.

I can two-finger expand the text in the window as large as possible and
shift the focus all the way to the left. Now, even though the left edge
of the window is still at the left edge of the screen, the space to the
left of the dots is wide enough that I can definitely touch the dots
without touching the edge of the screen ... and I still can't move the text.

In landscape mode, the left edge of the window is now moved away from
the left edge of the screen (so that the sidebar of control icons now
shows). The dots are now more than an inch away from the edge of the
screen ... and they still don't work.

BTW, it previously worked. I have an older list in which I had
successfully re-ordered and indented/outdented items. But now the dots
in that list no longer work either.

Does anyone else have any idea why list items in Keep can no longer be
moved? You used to be able to slide them up or down (i.e. re-order) or
right or left (i.e. indent or outdent).

Now, touching the six dots and trying to move the item doesn't do anything.

I tried creating a new list and editing an old one but I had no
issues. Can't have more than one level of indentation but it works as
ever. My version of Keep Notes is 5.24.312.02.90. There was an update
available to 5.24.322.01.90 but no change.

Thanks for that info ... which sent me in the right direction:

Mine only said Version 1, and I couldn't find any option to upgrade.

But under (main) Settings / Apps / App details in store, it said "Item
    not found. Try again."

So I looked in Play Store and, true enough, Keep was no longer there.
But I found and installed Keep Notes instead ... and it works!

But I can't find ANYWHERE what version it is, or how to upgrade it if I
should need too. Do you now where that info and method are ... just in
    case?

    Thanks.

App versions can be seen in settings, apps and then select the app Keep
Notes from the list, version is on the bottom.

Available updates are in Play Store, they hide it deeper and deeper as
time goes by but it's account icon on top right, "manage apps and
device", and "see details" under "Updates available".

Ah! I must not have scrolled down ... or something.

I'm not sure whether you mean Play Store / Keep Notes / click icon, or
Settings / Apps / Keep Notes / App Info / App Details in Store.

But they both take me to the same place, name App Details in Store ...
    of course! ;^)

I don't see what you're describing. In particular, I don't see "Updates Available". But under "What's new" I do see "Last updated Aug 14, 2024".

I'm hoping that when an newer version comes out, "Updates Available"
    will appear.
