A friend of my older brother, who always seems to know what's what, and
who manages to do his job as a radiologist, M.D., even when he's
traveling, seems to need my help for a couple things regarding the PC
and cell phone.
One of them is the ability to speak and turn it into text, for 1) search >> > terms with a web browsr, 2) text for texts, and maybe 3) Other things??
Being able to do these things just by talking makes the world a lot
better.
But I can't remember.... Is this native Android, or do I have it only
becauze I installed Gboard?
If this isn't what Gboard provided, then what did Gboard provide?
I don't want him either struggling to do it withougt Gboard if it's
needed, or installing Gboard for no special reason.
My Pixel2 has a choice of Gboard, ai.type keyboard or google voice
typing. I downloaded ai.type and use it. Not sure where Gboard came
from, but Google voice typing is native. Gboard claims to be multilingual.
AFAICT, contrary to what Wei Lu said, Google Voice Typing *is*
standard on Android. At least my Samsung phone (Android 13) does *not*
have Gboard (but Samsung Keyboard), but still has 'Google Voice Typing'
in its Keyboard list.
Am I correct that one views the Keyboard list by swiping left or right
the space bar in the keyboard? If not, where is the list.
My situation is diffent. I have a low end Samsung phone from 2019, and
a moderately low end Xiaomi phone from from 2021.
I finally figured out how to see if an app is installed, by going to the
play store and starting to install it, and both have Gobard installed. I
dont' want to UNinstall it to see what is left -- that would be looking
for trouble.
The Xiaomi has Google Voice installed, but a) that's not Google Voice
Typing is it? b) I haven't chosen a phone number. The Samsung does
not have it installed. ---- There is also Google Voice Search and
Google Voice Assistent or maybe Search Assistent
Aha, there is also Google Speech Recognition and Synthesis. That sounds
like the heart of the matter and both phones have that. Does anyone
just install that? More likely it comes with Gboard and other keyboard programs and that's what people install, right?
AFaICT neither has Google Voice Typing, certainly not those words
anywhere, but for texting the upper right corner of the keyboard has the
symbol of a microphone, next to Settings gear for the Samsung, next to a magnifying glass for Xiaomi. Other functions have a microphone symbol in
the field where one is to enter text, or in the top corner of the
switchboard.
Is this what you mean by built-in, or does this appear becuase of Gob
I love ai.type. I only type with my fingers/thumbs when I can't use my
voice.
