No high tech company spends *less* than Apple in R&D, proportionate to revenue (and a vast number of far smaller companies spend more in toto).
False.
It has been widely known by intelligent well-informed people, that, for decades, Apple has had the highest marketing & lowest R&D spend of all high tech - which even Steve Jobs openly admitted many times as covered prior.
*Does it surprise you Apple spends less in R&D*
*(proportionate to revenue) than similar tech companies?*

Why is proportionality important?
R&D is done in relation to PRODUCTS.
A company doesn't become more innovative if its revenues drop and it
doesn't become less innovative if its revenues rise.
The question is whether or not Apple still has the bottom-of-the barrel lowest R&D spend based on percentage of revenue of all similar companies?
NOTE: The ignorant uneducated Apple religious zealots will scream to defend Apple's atrocious R&D spending but they lack the math skills to take into account the size of Apple where companies 1/100th Apple's size spend more
in total dollars, let alone similarly sized companies' spend in percentage.
Also note the ignorant Apple religious zealots are incapable of clicking on links; so they'll claim that's "just a thread", which discounts the scores
of well-researched well-publicized cites in that thread.
Lastly, note the Apple zealots will brazenly lie to protect Apple's honor because they *hate* that Apple is all marketing and no R&D - where they
will claim the total is more than companies which are 1/100th Apple's size (which simply proves that Apple spends almost nothing proportionality in R&D).
Again, the simple fact is that many companies spend far more than Apple
on marketing.
